Default Al-Asbab al-Mu’eena `alaa Hifdh al-Qur’an

“The salaf never used to teach hadeeth and fiqh except to someone that had memorised the Qur’aan.” - Imam an-Nawawi [al-Majmoo'] !

The original book is titled “al-Asbaabul Mu’eena ‘alaa Hifdh al-Qur’aan al-Kareem” [Causes that Aid in the Memorisation of the Noble Qur'aan] written by Shaykh Mahmood al-Misri who is from the exceptional du’aat of Egypt.

It gives not only useful tips and steps but also encouragement from various verses and ahadeeth of the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam) as well as many statements from our past predecessors and their stance when it came to studying and memorising the Book of Allaah.

The reality of our righteous ‘ulama (scholars) past and present, is that they would not move on to tread heavily the path of knowledge except after completing memorisation of the Mus-haf as Imam an-Nawawi states: “The salaf never used to teach hadeeth and fiqh except to someone that had memorised the Qur’aan.” [1]

As for the Companions of the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam), then they would not move from an ayah or a set of ayaat except after understanding it fully and implementing it to their capacity - and this was to the extent that one of the sahabah was saddened that he was never turned away after knocking upon a house… saddened that he had implemented all of the Qur’aan except for the ayah below on seeking permission at entering homes!

May it encourage us all to take up the towering ranks of the huffaadh and the muttaqeen. Ameen!

“For those who do good in this world, there is good, and the home of the Hereafter will be better. And excellent indeed will be the home of the Muttaqun (i.e. Paradise).” [An-Nahl: 30]
